On the eve of an unprecedented local superfight in which two Ukrainians will fight each other we offer you interview with Yuriy Nuzhnenko.
- How was your training for the fight?
- It was quite OK – I’ve been training for two months. I had some idea about my opponent’s style before and now we together with my trainer studied thoroughly videos of four of his bouts. I successfully completed my training period and I think I’ve fulfilled my task – to get best shape.
- How do you evaluate your rival? Do you expect a tough fight?
- Senchenko is a skilled boxer and very experienced too. He fought a lot of fights both on amateur and professional ring. As a pro he conducted almost 30 fights and came undefeated. That’s why I do not expect an easy win – he is a serious opponent and he has a lot of motivation because this will be the most serious fight in his career. So most probably our fight will be uncompromising and at the same time spectacular one.
- Well, can you tell some words about your plan for the fight Of course, it’s a secret but nevertheless just in general?
- Well, in general only (laughs). I will use my pressure for 12 rounds. I’m not going to run from my opponent in the ring, of course,(smiles). I’m sure Senchenko will not run either – the fight will be on his home turf with his fans’ total support. So he will be ready for the real battle.
- Senchenko is famous for his body punches and won many fights with his master punch – left hook to the liver. Will you be ready for this?
- Of course, I’m prepared to defend myself – both my body and my head. And we have invented something special against his body punches – fans will see it in the ring.
- Do you think you’ll be able to win early?
- I never target to finish off my opponent by KO at any cost. I rather concentrate on methodical pressure on his defense. Of course, when I see the chance to win the fight by early stoppage I’ll do it.
- The fight will be on Senchenko’s home turf and thousands of his fans will support him. You fought mainly in Kyiv before…
- It does not matter where to fight – I’m a cool cat with robust nervous system. I’m self-reliant. By the way, at the beginning of my career I fought in Poland, in Russia, in Australia. Not long ago I went to France where I defeated Frederic Klose and won WBA world welterweight title. Besides, a large group of my fans will come to Donetsk to support me.
